Her Bodyguard

Heather Teston

Chapter 2

Thomas stood up as soon as Roxie walked in, holding out his arms to her. “Sweetheart, I’m so glad you are home.” He hugged her when she went into his arms.

“I want you to meet Dexter Sinclair, your new bodyguard.”

She turned to look at him when her father released her.

She was not happy about having her life turned upside down because of some sick prick who was obsessed with her, and now she had to deal with a bodyguard.

Mind you, he was really one hot piece of meat. His bright blue eyes were quite intoxicating. And a woman could get lost in them and those strong muscular arms of his.

“Father, I don’t want a bodyguard.”

“Sweetheart, we discussed this, and until this person is caught, you need to be protected. Please, don’t give him a hard time.”

She walked over to Dexter, standing before him, and as he was taller than her, she had to look up at him.

“Just don’t interfere in my life, and do not tell me what to do.”

He looked down into her big brown eyes. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, and you will do as I say,” he said with a smirk on his face.

There was something about the way he looked into her eyes that told her he wasn’t kidding. She could feel the heat rising up her neck and to her face.

Her heart was beating fast being this close to him. He was powerful, sexy, and smelled amazing. She backed away, not liking the effect he was having on her.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed some white stuff laying on the table next to her father’s desk. Turning her head, she realized it was her teddy bear.

Pushing past Dexter, she went over, picking up some of the stuffing.

“What have you done to my bear?” she asked, looking at both of them.

“It was me. I did it,” Dexter said, seeing the anger in her eyes, which only made her look sexier. An angry woman was one that had passion and fire in her soul.

She was pissed off. Shaking the handful of stuffing, she started yelling. “You went into my room and took my bear and destroyed it. Are you some kind of sick bastard?”

Thomas went over, took the stuffing from her hand, and tossed it onto the table. “I asked Douglas to get it from your room.”

“Dad, why?”

“Mr. Sinclair wanted to see all the things that were being sent to you. He checked it all out and found a small camera hidden in the eyes of the bear.”

She looked over at Dexter. Her voice shook when she spoke. “Oh my God. Has someone been watching me while I changed and slept?”

She felt the tears filling her eyes, and when her father held out his arms, she went into them. “Daddy, I feel so dirty, so violated.”

She looked up at him. “What if there are more cameras in my bedroom?”

“There aren’t,” Dexter said.

She pulled away from her father to look at him. “You’ve been in my room, going through my stuff?”

“Yes, I had to check it out to make sure there were no hidden cameras. I didn’t find anything, but if I were you, I wouldn’t accept things from strangers again.”

“I don’t like people going through my things. I suppose you looked through the drawers and got an eyeful of my panties and bras.

“Did it turn you on and get you hard?” she asked with a great deal of sarcasm.

“Roxie, behave yourself. He’s here to help you,” Thomas said, not liking how she was behaving. He didn’t want the man to turn down the job.

“Sweetheart, why don’t you go upstairs and take a long bath, and I’ll see you at dinner.”

“Okay, Daddy,” she said, and without speaking to Dexter she walked away, leaving the room.

When she was gone, Thomas turned to the other man. “Please forgive my daughter. She is very upset.”

“I understand, and I’ll be back tomorrow. I do ask that you have a long talk with her before I get back. The only way I can keep her safe is if she does exactly what I tell her to do.

“I’ll take the papers you have for me and leave now. I suggest you don’t let her leave home tonight.”

After shaking Thomas’s hand, he left and headed home. He had to admit, she wasn’t what he was expecting. She was beautiful and had a body that could cause a war between men.

She was feisty and had a temper, but he saw a vulnerable side to her, even though she acted tough. He also knew that he was going to have his hands full trying to get her to do what he wanted.

He stopped at a fast-food joint and grabbed a burger and fries to take home. Once there, he put the food on a plate, grabbed a cold beer from the fridge, and sat down at the table.

He took out the file that Thomas had given him. Looking over the layout of the mansion, he noticed that there was a secret entrance in the basement, leading to the outside.

He would have to check that out to see where exactly it led. He then went through Roxie’s file, going through the list of her friends.

One item caught his eyes, the one that said she was seeing a man called Joseph Metcalf. Since he had never heard of the man, he decided to call a buddy of his who was an FBI agent.

After making some small talk, he got down to why he was calling.

“Chad, I need a favor from you. I want you to check out a Joseph Metcalf. All I know about him is that he’s thirty-five. I believe he lives in Paris. Send me everything you have on him ASAP.”

After talking to him about his new assignment, he hung up.

He packed up his clothes, and then he went to his safe and took out the items he might need. He grabbed his duffle bag and put in his extra gun, handcuffs, special knife, and some other spy-type gear.

It sometimes came in handy in his line of work. His favorite item was the watch. It wasn’t your everyday watch. It was also a camera, a phone, a voice recorder, and specialized in other things.

Once everything was done, he grabbed another beer from the fridge and sat down in front of the TV.

The news was on, but he wasn’t listening to it. Instead, he thought back to his time with the Navy SEALs. When he joined up, he’d had no idea how intense and brutal the training was.

You had to have great stamina and a whole lot of patience. They pushed you to the brink of exhaustion on only four hours of sleep.

Many times he thought about quitting, but the harder they pushed him, the more determined he was to show them he had what it took to be the best.

Not every man made it. Many quit halfway through, and there were even some deaths during training. He became one of the best and was put with the Special Operations missions group.

They destroyed their target swiftly. “In and out” was their motto among the guys.

He learned so much during his time with them. He learned to fight, to fly a helicopter. On some of their missions, they had to go underwater to get to their location.

They rescued men who were kept prisoners deep in the jungle.

He had seen so much death that it started getting to him, so after four years of serving, he’d had enough. It was time to go home and settle down with his girlfriend.

He wanted to marry and start a family with the woman he thought loved him. But going home, he found out she had gotten married, and to his best friend of all people.

After finishing his beer, he went to bed and was asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. During the night, he started tossing and turning. He was having one of his bad dreams.

He and his team had reached their destination. Their mission was to rescue some diplomats who were being kept in a prison in Iraq.

It was a bloodbath, so many of his men died right in front of his eyes. Only he and six of the men that went in came out alive.

They were, however, able to get the diplomats out alive, though they had lost a lot of weight and were very weak.

Seeing the men he had become friends with being blown up, their body parts flying all over, was when he decided it was time for him to quit.

When he found out his girl was married, he left his hometown in Nebraska forever. He never went back, even though his parents still lived there. He kept in touch with them by phone.

When he heard his phone ringing, he got out of bed and picked it up. It was a text from Chad, telling him to check his email. He went through the email and saw the report on Joseph.

A smile crossed his face. He could always count on his buddy to get him whatever information he needed. Seeing that he couldn’t sleep, he made a pot of coffee and sat down to read the report.

Joseph Metcalf, thirty-five, son of Emma and Ronald Metcalf. He’d moved from New York to Paris at the age of thirty.

He came from money. He'd invested the inheritance he got from his grandmother into the stock market, making a killing. He opened up several businesses—restaurants, strip clubs, just to name a few.

He was known to associate with some members of the Mafia but was never caught doing anything illegal.

Okay, so what is your relationship to the Greene family?” he said to himself as he kept reading.

He kept reading, but there was nothing in the report about him and Thomas Greene. There wasn’t even anything about him dating Roxie, which he found strange.

The rest of the report just talked about his education, where he went to school and so on.

It did say that he had a thing for the ladies, and apparently he liked getting a little rough with them, but no charges were ever pressed.

He would have to make a point of finding out more about their relationship, if there even was one. Roxie didn’t appear to be the type to put up with anyone getting rough with her.

But then again, what did he know? Maybe she liked it rough. You know what they say: a lady in public, a wildcat in bed.

His thoughts turned to Roxie. Being curious about the dark-haired beauty, he decided to Google her name. Right away her name popped up, along with some pictures.

It had a lot of information about her. These days no one was safe from the Internet. It said she was a fashion designer in her father’s company. It even showed some of her designs.

He found this very impressive. They were very good. Here he’d been thinking she was some spoiled rich girl who lived off her father’s money and partied all the time.

But she wasn’t that way at all. She was independent and worked long hours, creating beautiful designs.

He read on about how she rarely dated and usually spent her time with her father, going to fashion shows and parties.

There were some pictures of her in a bathing suit. Apparently the Paparazzi were able to get on the Greene’s property and snap photos before being chased away.

He looked closely at the one where she was getting out of the pool. She had on a bikini and was standing at the edge. She was shaking her head, her hair flying around her face.

There were others, ones of her putting lotion over her body and one of her stretched out on a chaise longue.

He was beginning to feel like a pervert, staring at her in her bikini, so he turned to the other pictures.

There weren’t many more pictures of her, just a few from their company’s fashion shows, but one caught his eye. She was standing with a man who had his arm around her waist.

He was curious if this was Joseph Metcalf.

He flipped back to the ones of her by the pool, swallowing hard he ran his fingers through his hair.

His gut told him that she might be a distraction from doing his job, so he would have to be careful around her.

He looked up at the clock that was ticking loudly on the kitchen wall and knew he had to get ready to leave. He got up and went into the bathroom, took a quick shower, and changed.

Grabbing his stuff, he headed out. He went over to his car and opened the trunk to put his things in. Once inside his vehicle, he called Thomas Greene to let him know he was on his way.
