Chasing Kiarra

Word Vomit

Kiarra

I don’t know why, but I’d always enjoyed pissing people off. And it didn’t hurt that Adonis’s expression was just priceless. It was like he’d never been contradicted a day in his life.

I almost laughed out loud, but kept a straight face, waiting for his response. My eyes connected with his in the mirror, and he was just about to speak when we were interrupted.

“Aidan, come on, man! We’ve been waiting way too long for those drinks already! Michelle is starting to freak out that you haven’t talked to her yet and Angie is getting grumpy.” The guy who came up toward Adonis was a tall specimen of a man too.

Not as tall as Mr. Panty Drop, who still had a good half a foot on him, but the newbie was tall, nonetheless. He was blond and his hair was almost shoulder length, slicked back with hair products.

The hairstyle brought out bright green eyes that held a constant mischievous glint. His shoulders were broad, and he was muscular too.

Seriously, did they dope their water with steroids in this town? Every guy I had seen so far had had a decent number of muscles. Adonis stayed quiet, though, and didn’t even bother looking at Newbie.

I could still feel his intense stare at me, and it continued to do funny things to my insides.

Though Adonis kept quiet, the arrival of Newbie had seemed to snap Sam out of whatever trance he had been in since Mr. Brooding and Sexy walked through the door.

“Jack! Hey, man. What can I get for you guys tonight?” Sam sounded almost relieved as he went around the bar to greet Newbie. The two of them did that typical dude handshake with a fist bump at the end.

“Round of beer for me and Aidan and one of those girly drinks for the ladies. Thanks, man.” Jack looked to the man behind me for a few seconds before he suddenly turned his attention to me as if he just realized I was there too.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” He gave me a big smile, teeth and all, putting his hand out for me to shake.

“Hi there! I’m Jack. You must be new around here.” I took his hand with a smile of my own.

“Yeah, it seems like it, I guess. Kiarra.” I introduced myself. I felt Aiden tense up a bit behind me but tried to keep my focus on Jack.

“So, what brings you to our little neck of the woods, Kiarra?” Jack asked as he reached for one of the beers Sam had placed along the bar.

“Chance, I guess. Needed a change of scenery and happened to stumble across it on my way.” I smiled at Jack and just as I was about to turn around in my chair, Adonis reached his arm across me and grabbed his beer from Sam.

We didn’t even touch, but my heartbeat quickened at the sudden movement and his closeness.

I could feel him brush up against my back, but before I even had the chance to either enjoy his closeness or bitch at him for touching me, he tensed.

I don’t know what happened, but suddenly he grabbed the beer bottle and before I even had time to react, he was gone.

I didn’t even need to look over my shoulder to know he left; I somehow felt his presence disappear.

I scrunched up my nose and looked toward the door just in time to see the front door slam behind him.

“Don’t mind him; that’s unfortunately just how he is.” Jack’s voice drew my attention back to him and I gave him a smile.

“Oh, so his caveman-like ways are normal? I thought it was just me bringing out that glorious side of him,” I joked, and took a sip of my beer.

Jack’s laugh rang out loud, but before he had time to answer a high-pitched girl’s voice called him.

“Jack! What’s taking so long? We’ve been waiting forever!” Two girls suddenly appeared at Jack’s side.

The girls were both stunning. They were tall and lean, with legs that went on for days and amazing hourglass figures that would make anyone jealous.

They were also clearly twins. They looked remarkably similar with their bright blue eyes, small noses, perfectly shaped eyebrows, and small pink lips.

The only clear difference between the two was their hair color. The girl who had spoken was a golden blonde with hair that went just above her shoulders.

She wasn’t a natural blonde, but it definitely wasn’t a cheap dye job. The only reason you could even tell it had been colored was that she had darker roots.

But the hair was bright and sunny and went great with her Colgate smile.

The other girl seemed a little less perky and warm. She was standing with her arms crossed and an annoyed look on her face.

Her dark brown hair flowed freely in loose curls to her waist and framed her face perfectly.

They were both beautiful, but you could definitely see they had their own unique tastes.

“Oh, babe, I’m sorry. We were just getting to know the new girl.” Jack sneaked his arm around the blonde's waist, planted a kiss on her cheek, and gestured to me with the hand that held his beer.

The blonde instantly zoomed in on me and I could see a little jump in her steps as she quickly came up to me.

“Oh, my Goddess! Hi!” She squealed and clapped her hands. This girl had a lot of energy.

“I’m Angela, it’s so nice to meet you! I didn’t know we had a new girl in town! We don’t see that a lot around here. Are you staying here for long? How long have you been here? Oh wait, where are my manners!?

“That’s Michelle, my sister, and I guess you’ve already met Jack, my ma… man… Boyfriend, you know.” She talked a mile a minute, while simultaneously pushing my feet off the stool that Adonis and I had been arguing about earlier and taking a seat.

I barely had time to blink, let alone answer, before she continued again.

“I’m sorry if Aidan was a bit rude. That’s just him, anyway. Where did he go?” Before I had a chance to stop her word vomit from continuing Jack stepped in with a hand on her lower back.

“Angie, babe, breathe!” He turned to me with an apologetic smile “Sorry, when she gets excited, she tends to talk. A lot.”

I had to laugh out loud at that one, but once again, before I had a chance to answer, Angela interrupted.

“Oh, Goddess! I’m sorry. He is right though. It’s just so exciting getting a new girl in town.” Angela smiled, blushing. It was cute, and that sentence had actually been at a normal speed, so I could keep up.

“It’s okay, honestly. It’s nice to meet you guys. I’m Kiarra, by the way.” I put out my hand to shake Angela’s and turned to do the same with Michelle. She just scoffed at me, glaring at my hand before turning to Jack.

“I’m going to go see where Aidan went.” And with that, she turned around and followed Adonis out the door.

“Once again, I'm sorry!” Angela shrugged, looking mildly embarrassed. “Michelle isn't a bad person or anything. She's just skeptical of newcomers I guess.”

I took the last swig of my beer before putting it down on the bar again and turned to look at both of them.

“It's fine, no problem. But I should probably be heading to bed anyway. It's been a long day, and I can't really show up tired to my first shift tomorrow.” I stood up from the stool and gave them both a nod.

“Oh, where are you working? Does that mean you’re staying?” Angela already seemed ready to fire another question my way, so I quickly jumped in.

“Actually, Sam just hired me. So yeah, I'll be sticking around for a while. But right now I’ve got to go find a motel somewhere around here.”

I saw the girls share a look with Sam and turned around to look at my new boss.

“What?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“We don’t have any motels in town, sadly,” Sam informed me.

“Shoot,” I muttered, feeling my stomach deflate. I couldn’t just sleep on a park bench the night before my first day of work.

Sam looked towards the front door, where Adonis had just left. He looked conflicted about something. Then he seemed to come to a decision.

“But I know a place you can stay.”
